The Competition Act, 2002 – Comprehensive Interactive Guide (2002-2025)
India’s Competition Act, 2002 replaced the MRTP Act, ushering in a modern antitrust regime with strict prohibitions on anti-competitive conduct, a sophisticated merger-control framework, and evolving digital-market tools. Below you’ll find an expandable, interactive tour of every major provision, amendment and enforcement milestone through July 2025.
MRTP Era (1969-2002)
The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Act, 1969 focused on preventing concentration of economic power but lacked deterrent fines and modern investigative powers.
Raghavan Committee (2000)
The committee recommended replacing the MRTP Act with a WTO-aligned, pro-competition statute—paving the way for the Competition Act, 2002.
